Summer's Gone!!

School's back in! This first 4 weeks of school have been interesting. I was in a small private school until this year. I started a school, in August, with over 1,400 kids and just about every strange thing you could imagine. I felt like I was a college graduate compared to most of these guys. I’m not sure how many could spell their names, but half of them could drive themselves to school. There were more cliques than Google in a day. So life was a breeze, the honors classes were a no brainer, and I was skimboarding almost every day. The kids were ok just hard to figure out and get to know….and the language, well for the most part it was bad. So there was a little slippage into their world.

Last week, September 10th, my parents get a call from the number one school in the county, inviting me to attend. There was one catch, my parents and I had to decide in 24 hours to make the transfer. I admit, I was settling in at the other school. I could wake up at 8::00 AM, play a little Halo, read and do my homework and start school at 9:45. I was out by 4:10 and on the beach by 4:35.

The new school is quite the different picture. Being the new kid, is always a little tough, but the kids at this school are incredibly cool. The new school is smaller, they have a stricter dress code, the teachers are the best in the county and the work is challenging. I forgot how challenging school could be. Did I mention that the kids at this school are incredible? I only wish every first day student, or all students, could experience what I have in this past week. If you have ever been on a winning baseball or soccer team, you may have experienced some of this. It’s amazing what happens when rules are enforced and expectations of excellence are promoted. A society of rules, encouragement, and positive behavior is rewarded by advancement. Even though I’m missing a little of the coasting, at the other school, and skimboarding, there is no place I’d rather be than Coachman Middle School!

The surfer hair cut is gone, I got it styled...and I'm going to get it syled again this weekend...oh well, keep curlin'
